On one side of the virtual room, there were highly skilled teams of internet innovators that have been chosen for ONTOCHAIN Open Call 1 – Phase 1. On the other side, was a panel of evaluators looking for the best projects that should move to Phase 2. Only seven places available. The teams pitched. The evaluators decided. We are now proud to present you the seven big winners!
They say that “time flies when you’re having fun”… and the truth is that two months have already passed since the ONTOCHAIN Open Call 1 teams started their work! For the past two months, they have been conceptualizing a research project for one of the six open call topics. We now reached the end of Phase 1, as established on the timeline for the 7-months programme.
With the end of this Phase 1 came a difficult task: select the best projects that move to Phase 2. And how hard it was for the evaluators to select only seven projects! All teams had the chance to pitch in front of a panel of evaluators. They highlighted the reasons why their work is the best match to help establish the ONTOCHAIN framework as a human-centric, decentralised & trustworthy solution, based on available technologies for applications in various domains.
Getting here may not have been easy. But now that the best seven projects are chosen, we could not be more excited about the work that is coming next.

- CopyrightLY - Decentralised Copyright Management for Social Media
- GraphChain - A framework for on-chain data management for Ontochain
- HIBI - Human Identity Blockchain Initiative
- KnowledgeX - Trusted data-driven knowledge extraction
- OntoSsiVault (Gimly ID) - An SSI application suite
Two other projects have been invited to continue their journey and will be publicly announced once the respective administrative procedures are finalised.
During the next four months, the selected teams will be elaborating the concept proposed in Phase 1 and prepare design specifications to be implemented in the Open call 2, dedicated to “Protocol suite and software ecosystem foundations”.
