DLMD team embarked on a mission to create a revolutionary solution for the logistics industry, that could transform last-mile delivery and bring about a new era of efficiency and convenience. Their decentralized car-sharing system transforms every parked vehicle into a convenient parcel locker. This fosters a win-win scenario for all parties involved: from the courier, to the vehicle owners and the clients themselves. Team member Erdis Škrgić explains all about it in this interview.
Can you briefly present us your team? What’s your story and what drives you?
Our team is a diverse group of professionals with backgrounds in various fields such as software development, data analysis, project management, and marketing. We specialize in developing software and hardware solutions primarily for transport and logistics, with vast subsections including Terminal Operational Systems, General Cargo, RORO Car, RORO Ropax, Port Community Systems, Warehouse Management Systems, Vehicle Booking Systems, Port Operations Control Center, and more.
In addition to our core offerings, we also provide IT services such as Managed Services, ICT Outsourcing, Cloud Services, Fix & Repair, ICT Maintenance, and Network Services. Our expertise extends to consulting and information security, covering areas like Business Process Management, Information Security and Compliance, GDPR, Penetration Tests, Business Continuity, Service Management, Data Governance, ICT Revision, DPOaaS, and CISOaaS, among others.
Our team has been accumulating expertise in logistics and transportation over the past decade, and we have developed a deep understanding of the delivery process. This passion led us to focus on last-mile delivery, which we identified as a crucial part of distribution channels. Through our research and experience, we recognized the opportunity to develop a disruptive product that could significantly impact the distribution market.
Our story began when we decided to come together and leverage our collective skills and experiences to create innovative solutions that improve people's lives. What drives us is the desire to create a meaningful impact, not only for our clients but also for their end-users. Our motivation is fuelled by the satisfaction we derive from seeing our work make a positive difference in people's everyday lives, particularly within the last-mile delivery space.
In simple words, what is your project about and how does it contribute to the ONTOCHAIN software ecosystem?
With DLMD, we aim to revolutionize the last-mile delivery approach by transforming every parked vehicle into a convenient parcel locker. DLMD is envisioned as a decentralized car-sharing system, introducing innovative software and hardware solutions to digitalize vehicle sharing processes. Our focus is on ease of installation and use, automated payments, seamless insurance policies, and transparent interactions between all participants, fostering trust and reliability.
Through the development, implementation, testing, and promotion of our product, we will provide sustainable, resilient, transparent, and trustworthy vehicle-sharing solutions to accelerate digitalization within the parcel delivery sector.

How did you come up with this project idea and what benefits will it bring to the end users?
We came up with the idea for DLMD during the development of various logistics processes when we realized that there had been no ground-breaking concepts in the last-mile delivery space for an extended period. This discovery piqued our curiosity and encouraged us to dig deeper into the untapped potential of this crucial sector of the supply chain.
In one of our previous projects, we worked on logistics for vehicle manufacturers, where we learned that vehicles are only utilized about 5% of their time, leaving a staggering 95% of idle time. This revelation sparked our creative thinking, prompting us to merge these two insights and begin the development of the DLMD concept. By tapping into the underutilized resources of parked vehicles, we embarked on a mission to create a revolutionary solution that would transform last-mile delivery and bring about a new era of efficiency and convenience in the logistics industry.
DLMD is poised to deliver substantial benefits to a wide range of users and stakeholders, paving the way for a more efficient and accessible last-mile delivery experience. One group that will greatly benefit from this innovation are the clients themselves. By offering the flexibility to pick up or drop off parcels near their homes or workplaces, DLMD will cater to their convenience and time preferences, streamlining their parcel retrieval and dispatch processes.
Another group that stands to gain from the DLMD ecosystem is courier companies responsible for transporting parcels from warehouses to clients' homes or designated pick-up locations. By tapping into the underutilized resource of parked vehicles, couriers can optimize their delivery routes and minimize delays, ultimately enhancing the efficiency of their operations. Finally, vehicle owners will have the opportunity to generate additional income by renting out their vehicles within the DLMD ecosystem as delivery points for both clients and couriers. This innovative approach to last-mile delivery will foster a win-win scenario for all parties involved, transforming the logistics landscape, and ushering in a new era of convenience and financial opportunities.

Their insight will undoubtedly contribute to the success of our project. How do you assess the experience of working with other ONTOCHAIN teams? What type of synergies do you want to explore/are already exploring?
As a team of seasoned professionals with in-depth knowledge of our domain, we have not required the assistance of other teams from the ONTOCHAIN ecosystem thus far. Our team possesses the necessary expertise to navigate the complexities of our project independently. However, we have been fortunate to collaborate with our mentors from iExec, who have provided valuable guidance and support in refining our approach. This mentorship has been instrumental in ensuring our progress remains on track and aligned with the project's overall goals.
What are your expectations regarding the ONTOCHAIN software ecosystem and its contribution to the NGI priority areas?
We believe that ONTOCHAIN metamorphosing into an innovation epicentre that provides an extensive infrastructure to address the requirements of potential contributors and users. By cultivating an atmosphere that encourages the creation and adoption of state-of-the-art solutions, ONTOCHAIN holds the promise to advance technology and forge a dynamic ecosystem where participants can cooperate, acquire knowledge, and develop together, ultimately propelling progress throughout diverse sectors.
