ecOS: Energy Community Operating System

Motivation for the project:

Energy Communities must be accountable, trustworthy, creating prosumer engagement, but today the concept of community is missing. ecOS integrates ONTOCHAIN architecture to increase transparency and create a token economy for the prosumers involved in the energy community.

Generic use case description:

An Application, that indicates to the energy community member, when it is possible when it is convenient to consume and receive incentives in real-time.
A Dashboard for the Energy Community Coordinator and Service Provider that enables token and services management.

Essential functionalities:

The essential functionalities are Wallet, data certification and token. The Wallet will be integrated into the consumption monitoring application, which will also allow the management of the Wallet and the purchase of the services offered. Tokens will be distributed through rules in a smart contract and data from the meters.

How these functionalities can be integrated within the software ecosystem:

Ontochain software ecosystem will be used to integrate and accelerate Blockchain components implementation. More specifically:
• DESMO will be used for timestamp IOT Data;
• ONTOSSIVAULT will be eventually used for Identity
• POC4COMMERCE will be eventually used for Marketplace Services

Gap being addressed:

Today an Energy Community member doesn’t have real-time signal to improve the auto-consumption of Energy that comes from the community. Furthermore, the fact that the incentive is paid on a deferred basis with respect to virtuous behaviour does not create engagement.

Expected benefits achieved with the novel technology building blocks:

The expected benefits are the increase of the engagement of the energy community members through a token that can be earned and spent immediately by following virtuous attitudes. All this is possible through Smart Contracts, data certifications and ERC-20 tokens.

Potential demonstration scenario:

The demonstration of the solution will be done in a real energy community that will allow to evaluate the functioning of the token-model and of all the innovative components of the solution.
